At the conference we were honored to have New York City Fire Department, Assistant Fire Commissioner of Communications, Stephen Gregory as our guest speaker. I know each of us who had the opportunity to experience Stephen's presentation came away with a renewed outlook on life and the job we all do. And for those of us who had the opportunity to share one on one time with him during the conference, will remember the impact he has had on us. He considers us all his friends and hopes to join us in Conroe, Texas for the fall conference.
During the spring conference we also had the privilege to honor and recognize our friend, Texas State Representative Bill Carter for his dedication and commitment in the establishment of 9-1-1 in the State of Texas. Mr. Carter expressed his heartfelt thank you to Texas APCO for this special recognition upon his retirement. We wish him well in his new endeavors.
Coming up in August is the National APCO conference in Nashville, Tennessee. I know this will be a wonderful learning and networking experience. I look forward to seeing everyone there. We will be having a Texas Night Out which I'm sure will be unforgettable! The details will be posted at the conference in Nashville.
As we approach the upcoming months we once again are deep in the planning stages for the fall conference at Del Lago Resort in Conroe, Texas. I encourage each of you as members of Texas APCO to get involved to make this the best conference yet. The Conference Committee had the opportunity to visit the resort on May 14, 2002. We were very pleased with the staff, location, and facilities we saw. We have big plans for the conference with speakers, vendors, golf, entertainment, and the recognition of our Texas APCO Telecommunicator of the Year, Kim Killion. Monday, October 14, 2002, will be tons of fun as we take a cruise on Lake Conroe aboard the Southern Empress. Dinner, Dancing and Casino play are all in store for this unforgettable night. Make your plans now to attend and spread the word.
Texas APCO continues to grow and make a difference in our great state with the help and dedication of each of our members. I applaud each of you and again want to say thank you for your continued support. It is a true privilege to serve as President of Texas APCO.
